Images of Boise, Idaho - Boise Bench Grapes

Though technically located in a desert, Boise is categorized as zones 2B/3A by the Sunset Western Garden Book, and is a great place to grow all kinds of fruits, flowers and vegetables, including grapes, apples, tulips and tomatoes. Nearly every house with a yard has a garden of some sort. Though Boise is located in a desert region, the rivers that flow through the area have been tapped to irrigate the valley and many people still have “flood irrigation” right to their yards during the growing season (typically mid-April to mid October). During the fall and spring Boise usually gets a good deal of rain and most winters bring some snow which melts and helps to put water into the soil. The Boise region boasts several award-winning wineries. This picture is from an alleyway in the Boise Bench neighborhood.
